Lesson 2: Inside Betting
The inside betting region of the roulette table consists of all the numbers on the roulette wheel including 0 and 00. You can bet on one, two, three, four, five or six numbers with a single bet. You do not need to place the minimum bet amount for each inside bet, but the total of all inside bets must be equal to or greater than the table minimum.
A bet on a single number is called a straight-up bet. The bet is made by placing your chips in the middle of the area containing the number. If another player has already bet on the number just place your bet on top of their chips. Your can do this with any inside bet, that's what the colored chips are for. This single number bets pays 35 to 1.
A split bet is a bet on two different numbers located next to each other on the table layout, such as 1 and 2 or 1 and 4. The bet is made by placing your chips on the common border shared by the two numbers. The bet wins if either number comes up, paying 17 to 1.
A bet on three numbers in a row is called a street bet. The bet is made by placing your chips on the outside edge of the row you want to bet on, such as the 1, 2 and 3 row. The street bet pays 11 to 1.
A corner, or square, bet is a bet on four numbers sharing a common corner, such as 1, 2, 4 and 5. The bet is made by placed your chips on the point where the four numbers meet. The bet pays 8 to 1 if any of the four numbers comes up.
A five number bet is only possible on a double zero roulette wheel. The bet is on the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. The bet is made by placing your chips at the intersection of 0 and 1 that does not also include the 2. The bet pays 6 to 1 and has the worst odds of all roulette bets. It is recommended to avoid this bet.
A bet on six numbers is called a line bet. This is a bet on two adjacent rows, such as the 1, 2, 3 row and 4, 5, 6 row. The bet is made by placing your chips on the outside corner shared by the two rows. The bets pays 5 to 1 if any of the six numbers come up.
