Lowball Poker is just like Draw Poker except the lowest ranking hand wins the pot. The most popular versions of Lowball Poker are Ace-To-Five Lowball (California Lowball) and Deuce-To-Seven Lowball (Kansas City Lowball). In Ace-To-Five Lowball the best hand is 5-4-3-2-A, straights and flushes do not count against a hand. 7-5-4-3-2 (not of the same suit) is the best hand in Deuce-To-Seven Lowball. Ace can only be used as a high card in Ace-To-Five Lowball (5-4-3-2-A is not considered a straight). |

The game usually begins with blind bets, sometimes an ante. Five cards are then dealt facedown to each player. After this there is a standard round of betting. Players must either open with a bet or fold. If blinds are being used, some betting structures allow the big blind to be called; other structures require the minimum open to be double the big blind. Action starts to the left of the big blind and proceeds clockwise. In limit play, a bet and four raises are allowed in multi-handed pots. |

Remaining players can then discard and draw new cards to improve their hand. When drawing cards, the player to the left of the dealer position draws first and the draw proceeds clockwise. A player may draw up to four consecutive cards. If a player wishes to draw five new cards, four are dealt right away, and the fifth card is dealt after all other players have drawn their cards. If the last player wishes to draw five cards, four are dealt right away, and a card is burned before the player receives the fifth card. The draw is followed by another round of betting, beginning to the left of the dealer position and proceeding clockwise. In limit poker, the usual structure has the limit double after the draw. Once the betting is completed, remaining player reveal their cards. The lowest ranking hand wins the pot. |
