Other 140: Sic Bo
Sic Bo is an ancient Chinese dice game. The name Sic Bo means "Dice Pair", though game is actually played with three dice. The object is to select the individual number, or combinations of numbers, that will appear on the dice after they are rolled, or thrown.
The bottom row of a Sic Bo table contains six betting areas, called single number bets. Two-number combination bets are made by placing a bet of any two dice combinations. A player can only win on one instance of the two-number combination each throw.
Total wagers are bets on the combined values of the dice. A three number total wager consists of combining the totals shown on the three dice. This bet always loses when a 3 or 18 is rolled. Players can also wager on whether the total will be between 4-10 (small) or 11-17 (big). This bet loses when the three dice have the same value.
The triplet wager is a bet that all three dice will have the same value. Bets can be made on specific triplets, such as 4-4-4, or "Any Triplet". There is also a bet on pairs, or doubles, where any two dice must have the same value. Again a player can bet on a specific pair or any pair.
The game begins with players placing bets on the outcome of the throw. Players may bet on as many combinations as they want. The dice tumbler is then rotated and set on the table. All winning combinations are lit up on the layout on the Sic Bo table. Winning payoffs range from even money to 180:1 depending on the outcome wagered.
