Finding a Good Rakeback Program
by rakebrain.com
Finding a Good Rakeback Program

You've figured out that you need rakeback. Rakeback programs save you money with every single online poker hand you are dealt. If you're like many online poker enthusiasts, that can add up to thousands and thousands of hands and hundreds and hundreds of dollars. You can only sign-up for an online poker rakeback program with each participating online poker room once, so you want to make sure you find a good rakeback program before you jump in. Here's what to look for when seeking out a rakeback program.

Rakeback Percentage

This is the key factor to look at. The average rakeback program returns 30 percent of your rake to you, but some programs return more. The higher the rakeback percentage, the more money you save and the higher your win rate can go. Keep in mind that rakeback programs are designed to drive traffic to a particular site, so that poker sites offering higher rakeback return percentages are probably having more trouble getting customers. This may be simply because they are new and not well known, but there may be other reasons. You may want to check out a site with a particularly high rakeback offer before you sign-up. If you do sign-up, make sure you do it through the rakeback site though, or you won't qualify for rakeback.

Rakeback Calculation Method

Some online poker rooms calculate rake based on how many hands you are dealt into, crediting you for an equal percentage of the rake as everyone else who has been dealt into that hand, no matter who sees the flop or wins the pot. For example Full Tilt Poker rakeback program uses this method. Others credit you with the same percentage of rake as the percentage of the pot you contributed to, so a pot where you contributed 20 percent gets you credit for 20 percent of that pot's rake. The contributed percentage may penalize tight players who wait for premium hands before entering pots and therefore do not participate in as many pots. In contrast, if you are an action player, you may not want everyone else to get the same rake credit you do for the pots you are building, as in the first method.

Restrictions

Most good rakeback programs allow you rakeback credit for your entry fee to tournaments. They also allow you to collect online bonuses other than sign-up bonuses, although the bonus amount may count against your rake calculation. Be sure to find out all the relevant restrictions before you sign up with your rakeback program.
